Tell us a little about yourself.
I am the current president of the Minnesota Association of Alternative Programs (MAAP). We have over 700 members who work in the learning options programs/schools in MN. MAAP's main work is directed at having strong learning options that meet the needs of all of MN's students.

On the personal level, I have spent over 30 years working in a variety of schools and working with stakeholders on creating strong learning options. I just recently retired from paid work in education, however I intend to continue the same work, just not in the "classroom".

I have two daughters and four grandchildren. I like the out of doors along with gardening, hunting, and planting trees. My most recent quandry is how to hook my house up to my own residential wind energy system. Beyond that, I just get really excited about discovering (and working to build) the future.
Why are you interested in Students Speak Out?
I am interested in SSO so we can hear the voice of the students and help create change/improvement based on what they say.

Terry,
I'm sure you have plenty of stories of cheating in the classroom from your youth (of you and others). Most people do. That's the problem we're encountering: cheating has become the norm. Do you have thoughts on this, please come share them. Here's the link.

Terry, right now in the forums we're discussing the lack of trust between teachers and students. I'd love your opinion. Please visit the discussion here

Hey we're having a great discussion about whether it's good to separate genders in classes or not. Please check it out

Hey Terry, the Milwaukee Student Leaders have come up with their final product and plan for their project and they are looking for feedback. It would helpful to hear from an adult with experience in education programs.

how's it going? have you been to the forums lately, we'd love to hear what you have to say. Right now we're discussing separating genders in schools, and the 13 year old girl that was strip searched.

Welcome! Congrats on the wind power! My family has been discussing alternitive energy possibilities as well, and there are certainly many options out there.

Terry -- I recommend that you join the SSO Goes Alternative group. Click "Groups" above. Then click the alternative group. Then click "join the group." A lot is about to happen there -- all because of our team!

Also check out the main page -- their pics and bios are there.
