Introduction to this Social Network, Students Speak Out

Students Speak Out (SSO) is a "social networking site". In other words, this is an online community where members can discuss issues, post pictures and movies, set up a personalized profile, send messages to friends, keep a blog, etc.

To get involved, the first thing to do is to sign up for an account. Click the "Sign Up" link in the box in the top right corner. On the page that comes up, enter your email address and choose a password, then click "Sign up." You will then be asked to upload a picture and answer a couple questions about who you are and why you're interested in SSO. Click "Done" and your member account will be created!

Each member on SSO has their own personal page. Once you've signed up, you can view your own page by clicking "My Page" in the row of tabs across the top of the screen. You can edit many things on your "My Page" to customize it the way you want. Click around and you'll quickly learn what is possible!

You can access other members' My Pages by clicking the "Members" tab at the top of the screen. You will see a list of member names and pictures; be sure to click the numbers at the bottom of the screen to browse through all the members, as there are too many members to be shown on one screen. Click on a member's picture or name to go to their My Page.

Once you've located a friend's My Page, you can add them as your friend by clicking the "Add as friend" link under their picture. You may also leave notes on their "Comment Wall" by typing in your message and clicking "Add Comment". Adding other members as friends, and writing on their comment walls is a great way to network and get to know others on the SSO site.

A good place to start contributing is the "Forum" section of the site. To contribute, click the "Forum" tab at the top of the screen. Scroll down to see the list of discussions that are taking place. Click a discussion to see the posts, or click "Start a New Discussion" in the top right corner to begin your own.
